Kaduna Governor Predicts Strong Support for President Tinubu in 2027 Election
KADUNA, Nigeria — Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has refuted claims that northern voters are shifting their support away from President Bola Tinubu as the 2027 presidential election approaches. In a recent interview on Channels Television, Sani forecasted that Tinubu could secure between 70% and 80% of the votes in Kaduna State.
Sani attributed the perception of diminishing support for Tinubu to political narratives largely propagated through social media, rather than reflecting actual sentiments among constituents. He emphasized that both the North and Kaduna State remain aligned with the President and suggested that voters would ultimately judge the administration based on its performance.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will move from 29% of votes to 70 to 80%,” Sani stated.
The governor pointed out that politics in Kaduna is not driven by sentimentality and refrained from discussing past political figures. Instead, he highlighted his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its upcoming electoral strategies. In the 2023 presidential election, Kaduna had leanings toward opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 554,360 votes compared to Tinubu’s 399,293.
Sani noted that the political dynamics in Kaduna have evolved since the last election, attributing this change to the influx of politicians from opposition parties into the APC, particularly in southern Kaduna. He also referenced federal government initiatives, such as the establishment of a Federal University of Science and Technology and a federal medical center in the region, which he believes could enhance Tinubu’s standing among voters.
While acknowledging the contributions of former President Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu towards Kaduna’s development, Sani reiterated the need for further infrastructure improvements within the state.
Addressing concerns regarding the influence of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai amidst ongoing tensions within the APC, Sani opted for a unifying political approach without engaging in personality-based discourse.
“My priority is to strengthen the APC and ensure our message reaches voters across the state,” Sani remarked.
He also urged voters to scrutinize campaign promises critically, cautioning against accepting proposals without understanding the feasibility of their implementation.
“Someone will say, ‘When I become governor, every student will receive N10 million.’ You must ask, ‘How will you accomplish this?’” he stated.
When questioned about possible political backlash against Tinubu in the North, Sani firmly rejected the notion. He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s expected performance in the Northwest, Northeast, and North-Central regions.
Sani dismissed the belief that success in presidential elections could be achieved solely through media appearances. He emphasized that effective campaigns must engage directly with voters at the grassroots level, stating, “You don’t contest with the President by campaigning in Abuja.”
The governor concluded that the APC’s success in the 2027 elections will depend on its ability to communicate achievements and maintain a strong presence in both Kaduna and the broader northern region.
