Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Alleged Defilement of Infant Stepdaughter
Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a man, identified as Balarabe Adamu, in connection with the alleged defilement of his eight-month-old stepdaughter in the Toro Local Government Area.
According to authorities, the incident was reported on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, around 5:34 p.m. Adamu, a resident of Lame in the Toro LGA, is accused of sexually abusing the infant after she was brought to his home by his wife.
Following the report, the child was taken to General Hospital in Toro for a medical examination and treatment.
Officers from the Gumau Division of the police responded to the incident and subsequently arrested Adamu. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act, calling it unacceptable. He pledged to conduct a thorough investigation and stated that the suspect would face prosecution if the allegations are substantiated.
“The case will be thoroughly investigated, and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion, in accordance with the law,” the Commissioner said.
Aliyu emphasized the Command’s “zero-tolerance” policy toward sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians, and community leaders to stay vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse to the police.
The police indicated that further updates on the investigation will be made public in due course.
