Lagos announces partial closure on Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway for road repairs

Partial Closure Announced for Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Repairs
The Lagos State Government will implement a partial closure of sections of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to facilitate urgent rehabilitation work by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced the closure in a statement released Tuesday. The repairs will impact both directions of traffic along the stretch between U-Turn Bus Stop and the Sango Tollgate.
Scheduled to begin on February 11 and continue through March 11, the rehabilitation project will last for four weeks.
Osiyemi explained that the work will be divided into two phases to minimize traffic disruptions. The first phase will focus on the Abeokuta-bound carriageway, specifically the portion from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate. This stage is expected to take three weeks, concluding on March 4.
During this phase, traffic from Lagos and Abule-Egba toward Abeokuta and Sango Tollgate will be redirected to one side of the carriageway, approximately 20 meters from the construction zone. Drivers will rejoin the main road after the work area, and the process will use a single lane at a time. Once construction on one side concludes, traffic will shift to the completed section while work continues on the other half.
Osiyemi assured motorists that those traveling on the Lagos-bound lane would experience an uninterrupted flow during the first phase.
The second phase will address repairs on the Lagos-bound carriageway, covering the segment from Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction, and is set to run from March 4 to March 11. During this phase, traffic from Abeokuta and Sango Tollgate toward Lagos and Abule-Egba will also be diverted, with normal traffic flow restored immediately after the construction zone.
As with the initial phase, work will progress in sections, allowing for movement to completed areas as the project advances. Osiyemi reiterated that free movement would be maintained for motorists heading toward Abeokuta.
Comprehensive traffic management measures will be enacted throughout the duration of the repairs, and Osiyemi urged road users to plan their trips in advance, adhere to traffic signage, and cooperate with traffic officials assigned to the area.
“The motoring public is encouraged to exercise patience and understanding as we undertake these crucial repairs for the safety and benefit of all road users,” Osiyemi stated.
