Nigerian Businessman Criticizes Police for Evidence Request
Nigerian businessman Prince Isaac Fayose has condemned the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for asking social media activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, to provide evidence for his allegations against police officers.
On Tuesday, VeryDarkMan participated as a panelist at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, where he claimed that some police officers stationed at checkpoints on major highways across the country share information about travelers with kidnappers and bandits.
In response to these allegations, the police invited VeryDarkMan to furnish evidence to support his claims.
Fayose reacted sharply to this request, asserting that even President Bola Tinubu acknowledges the pervasive corruption within the police force. He urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate the allegations firsthand, advising him to conduct covert inspections while dressed in civilian clothing.
“VeryDarkMan stated that Nigerian police officers are corrupt, and now the IGP is asking him for evidence,” Fayose said. “Is the IGP unaware of his officers’ corruption? They are underpaid and widely recognized for their misconduct. Even a toddler in Nigeria knows this.”
Fayose continued, “Simply wear mufti and drive around at night; the reality of your officers’ activities will be evident. Searching for evidence in this case is a misallocation of priorities. The president himself understands that the police are corrupt.”
He concluded, “A drive from Abuja to Kogi in civilian clothes will reveal all the evidence needed. Inviting VeryDarkMan to present proof is likely to embarrass the police further.”
