Why Igbos don’t get much support in entertainment industry – Zuby Michael
Nollywood actor Zuby Michael recently discussed the lack of support for Igbo talents within the industry during an interview with Broadway TV. He attributed this issue to concerns among gatekeepers and industry executives about the potential for Igbo individuals to outshine their mentors.
Michael explained that Igbo people are quick learners, often achieving significant milestones in a shorter time frame. He stated, “An Igbo person might learn what took you ten years to master in just one year and six months.” This rapid advancement, he suggested, leads to fears among established figures in the industry, who worry that if they do not treat their mentees well, those mentees may become competitors.
He further noted that some industry executives, including those from the Igbo community, hesitate to support their own due to fears of being overshadowed. Michael emphasized that this mindset ultimately hampers the growth and representation of Igbo talent in the industry.
