Tinubu hails security forces after rescue of abducted NYSC members in Kogi
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the successful rescue of 21 individuals, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who had been abducted in Kogi State last week.
The group consisted of eight males and 13 females, as well as six other Nigerians. The rescue operation took place on Monday afternoon and involved a coordinated effort among the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes.
Authorities located the victims in a remote area of the Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, where the kidnappers had established a hideout. Following the rescue, the victims are receiving medical treatment in preparation for their reunion with their families.
President Tinubu confirmed that security forces are actively pursuing the kidnappers, who escaped the scene during the operation. “While the abductees have been safely rescued, our gallant security forces are still on the trail of the routed kidnappers,” he stated. “Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime. My administration remains committed to ensuring that every Nigerian can travel across our country without fear.”
The president commended the security personnel involved in the operation and expressed gratitude to the families of the victims for their patience and understanding during the ordeal. He acknowledged the relief felt by the families following the successful rescue and reassured parents of NYSC members that his administration is dedicated to safeguarding their lives and property.
Tinubu also praised the efforts of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies during this operation.
