Three men in court over N6.8m ‘spiritual soap’ fraud

Three individuals, Waheed Bojesomo, 53, Olajide Olakanmi, 59, and Olayinka Oludayo, 46, appeared in court on Tuesday facing charges of conspiracy, fraud, and theft. The arraignment took place at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan.
The defendants are accused of defrauding a spiritual seeker, Muritala Abiodun, of 6.8 million naira under the pretense of providing spiritual soap. According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Sikiru Opaleye, the fraudulent activities occurred between 2022 and October 2025 in Apatere village, Ibadan.
Opaleye stated that the defendants knowingly made false claims and misappropriated Abiodun’s funds for their personal use. He noted that the actions of the defendants violate Sections 390(9), 419, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
In response to the charges, all three defendants pleaded not guilty. Chief Magistrate Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted bail at 2.5 million naira each, requiring that each defendant provide two sureties with equal financial backing. One of the sureties must be a blood relative.
The hearing has been adjourned until October 22.
