CAF Champions League: Rivers United depart for Cote d’Ivoire ahead San Pedro clash
Rivers United has departed Nigeria for Côte d’Ivoire in preparation for their first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round against San Pedro.
The team, known as the Pride of Rivers, traveled from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday. They will compete against San Pedro at Stade Laurent Pokou in San-Pédro.
The return leg of the match is scheduled for next week in Abeokuta. This matchup represents an important step for the Port Harcourt-based club in their continental campaign.
Technical adviser Finidi George acknowledged the challenges the team faces, reflecting on their previous elimination from the competition by Egyptian club Pyramids FC.
