Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency Arrests 130 in Security Operation
The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) arrested 130 individuals suspected of criminal activity during a security operation early Friday morning. The operation took place across Victoria Island, Lekki-Ajah, and sections of the Coastal Road, beginning around 2 a.m.
Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, General Manager of LNSA, announced the arrests in a statement released on Friday. The operation was initiated in response to reports of criminal activities targeting motorists, particularly during times of heavy traffic congestion.
Following their arrest, the suspects were screened and subsequently presented to officials from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency for identification and profiling. Oyekan indicated that the exercise aimed to determine the identities of the suspects and assess their involvement in criminal activities. Those found culpable will face prosecution.
The operation reflects LNSA’s commitment to enhancing public safety, ensuring that residents and motorists can travel without fear in the affected areas. Oyekan noted that the raid is part of a broader community-policing strategy that emphasizes collaboration with residents and other security agencies to address emerging security threats promptly.
He added that this initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s efforts to bolster grassroots security and support the establishment of a state police structure. The proposed framework aims to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve response times, and enhance community-level policing.
Oyekan commended the supporting agencies for their professionalism and coordination during the operation. He expressed gratitude to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and Commissioner for Special Duties Gbenga Oyerinde for their ongoing support of security operations throughout the state.
“We will continue similar joint operations at strategic locations across Lagos to deter criminal activities and enhance public safety,” Oyekan stated.
The operation received additional support from officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and an armed detachment from the Nigeria Police Force. It was facilitated by Kunle Fagbemi, Chief Security Officer to the Lagos State Governor.
