I’m half-Nigerian, not Jamaican — British singer Kwn

British singer and rapper Khyra Wilson, known professionally as Kwn, has addressed misconceptions about her heritage, stating that she is half-Nigerian rather than Jamaican, as many listeners have presumed due to her musical style and cultural influences.

In a recent appearance on the “Culture” podcast, Kwn discussed the impact of her upbringing on her music, highlighting the strong influence of Jamaican and Caribbean culture in her work.

Kwn, who gained attention with her hit song “Worst Behaviour,” shared that her father is Nigerian and her mother is Irish. Although she has not yet visited Nigeria, she expressed optimism about the reception she would receive when she does.

“I am half-Nigerian. Everyone thinks I am Jamaican, but I am not. I grew up around Caribbean culture, so people assume I am from the Caribbean,” Kwn said.

She noted that few people have recognized her Nigerian roots until recently. “Nobody has ever guessed that I am Nigerian until recently when someone guessed it. Everyone thinks I am Caribbean,” she explained.

Despite her unfamiliarity with Nigeria, Kwn remains hopeful about her future visit, stating, “I know they are going to love me when I go over there.”
