Troops Intercept Suspected ISWAP Attack in Yobe State
YUNUSARI, Yobe State — Soldiers from the 159 Military Battalion in Kanamma thwarted an attempted theft of roofing zinc from Ngamma Primary School by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The incident occurred on February 9 at approximately 9 p.m., when armed assailants entered the school. The information was reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region.
Makama indicated that some youths from the local community were reportedly coerced by the attackers to assist in removing the roofing material. Troops from the 159 Military Battalion were quickly dispatched to the scene to confront the insurgents.
During the engagement, a stray bullet struck 19-year-old Umar Maigari, a resident of Ngamma, injuring his left leg. He was subsequently transported to Specialist Hospital in Geidam for treatment, where he is reported to be recovering.
Authorities have since brought the situation under control and are conducting ongoing monitoring and intelligence operations to avert further attacks.
