Erdogan Reflects on 25 Years of AK Party Rule and Turkey’s Foreign Policy
In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed Turkey’s foreign policy, the implications of regional conflicts, and the legacy of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) as it marks its 25th anniversary.
Erdogan’s political career began in the early 1990s when he was elected mayor of Istanbul. He founded the AK Party in 2001 and has maintained an unbroken streak of electoral victories since then. After serving three terms as prime minister, Erdogan transitioned to the presidency in 2014, where he continues to serve.

He also expressed unwavering support for Syria’s new administration and solidarity with Lebanon and Gaza.
On the domestic front, Erdogan reflected on Turkey’s significant economic progress over the years, noting that EU membership aspirations are no longer a primary focus for his government.
