Two Arrested in Connection with Murder Over Land Dispute in Ekiti State
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two individuals allegedly involved in the assault, abduction, and murder of a 45-year-old man, Ogunsakin Sunday, in a dispute over land in Afao-Ekiti.
The suspects have been identified as Rotimi Joseph Olabiowonu, known as “Metilo,” a former chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Ekiti State, and Adedoyin Opeyemi, an alleged member of his gang.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Abutu Sunday, the incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026. It is reported that Metilo and five accomplices arrived at the victim’s home in a Toyota bus, forcibly removed him, and transported him to an undisclosed location.
While en route, the suspects allegedly pushed Sunday from the moving vehicle, resulting in severe head injuries. He was subsequently taken to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
Following a report regarding the incident, law enforcement officials investigated the scene and arrested Metilo and Opeyemi. The police stated that other alleged members of the gang remain at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The police have assured the public that anyone found responsible will face justice and urged community members to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
