Veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, known professionally as Olu Jacobs, has passed away at the age of 84. His death was confirmed by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, on September 16, 2026.
Olu Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942, in Kano, Nigeria. He trained in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London before pursuing a career in the United Kingdom, where he appeared in numerous television productions.
Throughout his career, Jacobs featured in international films such as “The Dogs of War,” “Pirates,” and “Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend.” Upon returning to Nigeria, he became one of the most recognized figures in Nollywood, contributing to several films and television shows.
Jacobs was married to fellow actress Joke Silva, whom he met in the theater. The couple wed in 1989 and collaborated on various projects, including their association with the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.
Over the years, Jacobs received multiple accolades for his work, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the title of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), and the AMVCA Industry Merit Award.
Following his passing, Olusoji Jacobs described his father on social media as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, affectionately referring to him as “The Lion of Lufodo.” The family has requested privacy as they mourn the loss of the celebrated actor.
