President Tinubu Mourns Passing of Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences following the death of veteran Nollywood actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, widely known as Olu Jacobs. Jacobs passed away at the age of 84, as confirmed by his son on Wednesday.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed Jacobs as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished actors. The President acknowledged Jacobs’ extensive career in theatre, television, and film, which garnered him recognition both nationally and internationally.
Tinubu highlighted Jacobs’ significant contributions to the advancement and professionalization of Nigeria’s entertainment industry. He noted that the actor’s talent, discipline, and commitment to his craft served as inspiration for generations of actors and filmmakers.
“Olu Jacobs brought depth, dignity, and authenticity to his roles, earning him admiration in Nigeria and beyond,” the President said. He further emphasized that Jacobs was a crucial figure in the Nigerian creative industry, calling his death a substantial loss for Nigeria, the African film sector, and the worldwide community of performing arts enthusiasts.
“The remarkable body of work he leaves behind will continue to resonate with generations to come,” Tinubu added. He acknowledged the vital role that creative practitioners like Jacobs play in shaping Nigeria’s cultural identity, global image, and economic development, recognizing Jacobs’ influence in this regard.
