Nigerian Singer Tems Breaks Billboard Record with Seven Hot 100 Entries
Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first African female musician to secure seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her latest song, “What You Need,” made an unexpected debut at number 93 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, increasing her total chart entries to seven. This accomplishment places Tems in competition with fellow Nigerian artist Burna Boy and South African group Seether, who also have seven entries each.
In 2022, Tems became the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, collaborating with Future and Drake on the hit single “Wait For U.”
Looking ahead, Tems may soon surpass her peers, as her feature on J. Cole’s upcoming single “Bunce Road Blues” is anticipated to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
