NPFL: Why Plateau United lost to Rivers United – Ogunbote

Plateau United Blames Stadium Conditions for Season Opener Defeat

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Gbenga Ogunbote, the technical adviser for Plateau United, cited the playing surface at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium as a contributing factor to his team’s 2-0 loss to Rivers United in their opening match of the season.

The defeat marked a challenging start for Plateau United, often referred to as the Peace Boys. Goals from Abdulrasheed Dabai and Wasiu Falolu secured the victory for the home team.

Ogunbote expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly in the first half. “We didn’t get the game right in the first half, but we made the necessary corrections in the second half,” he told the club’s media team.

He noted an improvement in the squad’s cohesion after halftime, though he maintained that the playing conditions hindered their performance. “Our reaction was a little slow and poor. The game is gone, but we will take positives from it as we look ahead to the next match,” he added.
