Dino Melaye raises questions over Tinubu, Shettima’s absence from Nigeria at same time
Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former senator representing Kogi West, has raised concerns about the simultaneous absence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from Nigeria.
In a recent post on his verified X account, Melaye questioned the leadership of the country during their absence. “Who is in charge of Nigeria as we speak?” he wrote. His comments come as President Tinubu is currently on a three-week vacation, part of his annual leave. The President’s itinerary includes stops in London and Paris.
Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima left for New York on Sunday to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Melaye continued his critique by noting the frequency of the President’s travels and emphasized that power has not been formally transferred during these absences. “Tinubu travels out of Nigeria every month. Never for once has power been transmitted,” he stated.
