Kano State Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper Linked to Multi-State Syndicate
KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man believed to be part of a kidnapping and cattle-rustling syndicate that operates across Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states.
CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced the arrest in a statement issued on Monday. The suspect, identified as Habibu Bello, was taken into custody on September 14, 2026, during a targeted operation by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, following credible intelligence.
Bello, a resident of Kunkumi Town in the Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, faces multiple charges related to armed robbery and kidnapping. The statement indicated that his activities spanned several incidents in the three states.
Additionally, the police reported that their ongoing investigation led to the arrest of another individual, known as Mudam, from Kwanar Dangora, who is also reportedly connected to the syndicate.
During questioning, Bello allegedly admitted to being involved in numerous kidnappings, including the abduction of Hajiya Binta in Kwanar Dangora, for which a ransom of N20 million was reportedly paid. He also allegedly confessed to kidnapping a family in the Gwarzo Local Government Area and participating in cattle rustling operations across the region.
In a separate incident, police operatives recovered a Cine-Camera Drone during a clearance operation in Bebeji Local Government Area. The drone, marked GT 50, was discovered lying on the ground in Hawan Tarau village on September 17. Authorities are investigating the origin and ownership of the drone.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the efforts of the police operatives and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to continuing clearance operations alongside neighboring police authorities.
