The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended approximately 300 individuals during recent operations targeting crime-prone areas in Abuja. The raids took place on Saturday, September 19, and were intended to disrupt criminal activities in locations believed to serve as hideouts for offenders.
Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, announced the arrests in a statement on Sunday. She outlined the operation’s objective as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and security in the region.
“The operation involved multiple locations and resulted in the identification of several criminal hideouts,” the statement noted. “Items recovered included knives, a toy gun, cannabis, and other illicit drugs.”
The apprehended suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening and profiling. Those found to have violated the law will be charged in court, while individuals with no criminal ties will be released after the screening process.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi emphasized the importance of ongoing intelligence-driven raids and proactive policing measures throughout the territory. He highlighted the focus on areas identified through intelligence as potential criminal activities.
Sanusi also addressed the issue of drug abuse, warning residents, particularly youths, about its detrimental effects. He stated that substance abuse can impair judgment, incite violent behavior, and elevate security risks within communities. The commissioner urged individuals facing drug-related challenges to seek counseling and rehabilitation to avoid engaging in criminal conduct.
Furthermore, Sanusi instructed officers to conduct raids with professionalism and integrity, emphasizing that operations must not compromise the rights of citizens. He stated that any officer found engaging in extortion or harassment would face disciplinary action.
