Aba: Artisan electrocuted while working on plaza roof
An artisan working to clear weeds from the roof of a shopping plaza in Aba, Abia State, was fatally electrocuted on Tuesday evening following heavy rainfall in the area.
The incident occurred around the Plaza area of Ehi Road when the young man, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, reportedly stepped onto a slippery surface, causing him to lose his balance and come into contact with exposed live wires supplying power to the building.
Witnesses described a scene of anguish as onlookers gathered at the shopping center to mourn the worker. One eyewitness, who requested to remain anonymous, recounted hearing the victim’s cry after he touched the live wires while power was still active.
Residents near the site voiced concerns over the potential dangers posed by high-tension wires, urging property owners to ensure that electrical lines are not installed in close proximity to residential and commercial facilities.
As of now, there has been no official statement from relevant Abia State government agencies or the Nigeria Police Force regarding the incident.
