Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Individuals, Recovers Rustled Cattle
KATSINA, Nigeria – Troops participating in Operation Fansan Yamma successfully rescued seven individuals who had been kidnapped in Katsina State and recovered a significant number of cattle reported stolen in Sokoto State.
According to the Nigerian Army, the rescue operation took place on the Daye–Malumfashi Road in the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina. This action followed a distress call received on the evening of September 21, 2026, regarding an assault on a commercial vehicle making its way from Kaduna to Katsina.
Military officials reported that troops from Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma arrived at the scene quickly, compelling the attackers to abandon their captives and flee. The rescued individuals included six female students from the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and one male commercial driver, all found unharmed.
The Army noted that the rescued were screened for security purposes and provided with medical assistance before being handed over to appropriate authorities for reunification with their families and educational institutions.
In a separate operation in Sokoto State, the same troops thwarted a terrorist assault and retrieved a large number of cattle believed to have been stolen from local residents. This intervention was prompted by credible intelligence indicating that armed terrorists had intruded into the Asarara Kaura community in Kebbe Local Government Area, where they were perpetrating violence and stealing livestock.
Responding swiftly, the troops positioned themselves to intercept the attackers as they attempted to flee with the cattle. A gunfight ensued when the terrorists opened fire upon witnessing the troops. The Army reported that the soldiers employed superior firepower and tactical maneuvers, ultimately overpowering the assailants, who then fled into nearby bushes, leaving behind the stolen cattle.
Residents of Asarara Kaura and surrounding areas expressed their gratitude for the troops’ prompt action, which brought relief to the community. The recovered cattle are currently under military custody, with plans underway to return them to their rightful owners.
