Bauchi State Police Arrest Two Men for Alleged Sexual Assault of Minors
Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has detained two men in connection with the alleged sexual assault of three minor girls in Lanzai District, within the Darazo Local Government Area.
The suspects, 20-year-old Abubakar Muhammad Jatau and 18-year-old Umar, were apprehended following a report filed by the father of the victims. The arrests were made public during a police press conference held at the Yandoka Police Headquarters on Thursday.
According to the police, the minors were reportedly lured to an unfinished building in the vicinity, where the assault took place. The victims have since been taken to the General Hospital in Darazo for medical examinations. Authorities confirmed that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate incident, two additional suspects—25-year-old Sunusi Muhammad and 20-year-old Idris Aliyu—were arrested for allegedly threatening to kidnap a resident of Machiyar Kuka village in the Bununu Division. The arrest occurred as the individuals were reportedly trying to collect a ransom of 1.5 million naira from the victim following threatening phone calls. The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during subsequent interrogations.
Police operatives also intervened in a separate incident in the Dumi Bush area, where a 35-year-old suspect, identified as Sirajo, was arrested in connection with the attempted theft of a tricycle. Following a report made to the ‘A’ Division, police were led to Dumi Bush, where the stolen vehicle had been partially dismantled. Officers managed to reassemble the tricycle, although the tarpaulin remains missing, and it has since been returned to its rightful owner.
In a related development, a 25-year-old man named Jabir Yusuf was arrested in Toro Local Government Area for the alleged murder of 25-year-old Hassan Mohamed. The incident occurred on September 7, 2026, when Yusuf allegedly fired a Dane gun, striking Mohamed in the neck. The victim was transported to Toro General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Law enforcement officials have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in this incident.
The Bauchi State Police Command continues to investigate these cases and emphasize its commitment to maintaining public safety.
