Bauchi Police Arrest Man in Death of Infant Daughter
Bauchi, Nigeria — A 27-year-old man, Muhammad Garba Ladan, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command in connection with the death of his four-month-old daughter, Fatimah Muhammad. The incident occurred in Zirami, Azare.
The police received a report on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from the child’s mother, who stated that she had left Fatimah asleep and returned to find her unconscious and not breathing.
According to a statement released by the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the mother observed her husband leaving the room shortly before discovering their child’s condition.
The infant was transported to the General Hospital in Azare, where medical personnel confirmed her death and indicated that strangulation was the likely cause.
Following the report, authorities took immediate action, arresting Ladan and launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further review.
