AFCON 2027Q: Usor reveals how Simon inspired match-winning goal against Madagascar
Nigeria’s Moses Usor attributed his winning goal in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory over Madagascar to the encouragement he received from teammate Moses Simon.
Usor, who came on as a substitute, scored the decisive goal in a competitive match held recently. After receiving the ball in Nigeria’s half, the 24-year-old winger from LASK of Austria advanced, maneuvering past two defenders before sending the ball into the net.
In a statement to the Super Eagles media, Usor acknowledged Simon’s pivotal role in his performance. “I was warming up with Moses Simon when they called me, and we went in together. He advised me to just play my game, and be myself,” Usor said.
Simon urged Usor to take risks when the opportunity presented itself. “He said, if you have the ball and you want to go one-on-one, you can take the risk. He gave me the confidence to play the game,” Usor remarked.
Reflecting on his goal, Usor expressed disbelief at reaching this level of play. “It’s still a surprise to me. I still feel it is a dream, playing at this level,” he said. After scoring, he knelt in prayer, expressing gratitude for the moment. “I really thank God for it,” he added.
