2027: ADC accuses APC of parading ‘imaginary’ defectors

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of falsely claiming that defectors from its party have joined the ruling party. The APC recently announced that several House of Assembly candidates from Jigawa, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara states had defected to its ranks.
In response, the ADC stated that the individuals presented by the APC were neither recognized candidates nor leaders within their party. The opposition party asserted that the ruling party had misrepresented the identities of these individuals as ADC members, despite their lack of affiliation.
In a statement, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, challenged the APC to provide verifiable evidence of the political credentials belonging to the alleged defectors.
“The APC cannot assemble random individuals at its secretariat, confer imaginary ADC credentials on them, and then announce their defection,” Abdullahi said. He further emphasized that the APC chairman is welcome to meet with any visitors but should not introduce them as ADC candidates.
The ADC categorically denied the APC’s assertion that the alleged defectors were drawn to the ruling party by what was described as a ‘remarkable transformation’ in Northern Nigeria. The opposition party questioned how such claims could be relevant for Nigerians facing challenges such as high food prices, insecurity, and escalating household expenses.
“Having invented ADC credentials for its guests, the APC has supplied an equally imaginative account of its performance over the past few years,” the ADC statement read.
Additionally, the ADC demanded that the APC clarify the positions held by the defectors within ADC, as well as the constituencies they reportedly represented and the timeline of their service in those roles.
“The APC should state the ADC offices these individuals supposedly held, the constituencies they represented as our candidates, and when they held those positions,” the party stated.
The ADC emphasized that Nigerians are seeking tangible evidence of improved living conditions rather than mere political announcements. “Nigerians are asking for evidence of better lives; the APC is manufacturing photographs and congratulating itself,” the party concluded.
