Farmer Killed, Another Injured in Attack by Suspected Herders in Yobe State
Bade Local Government Area, Yobe State — A 30-year-old farmer was killed, and another was injured following an attack by suspected herders on February 11, 2026, in Azbak Village.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m., according to community sources and security agencies. The victims, identified as Abdulrahaman Audu and Ya’u Umaru, were reportedly tending to their tomato farms when they confronted two unidentified herders who had allegedly entered their property with grazing sheep.
Sources indicated that a dispute arose between the farmers and the herders, escalating into a violent confrontation. The attackers allegedly used cutlasses to inflict severe injuries on both men.
Following the attack, the victims were transported to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua for emergency care. Audu was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Umaru is currently hospitalized and reportedly responding to treatment.
The body of Abdulrahaman Audu has been returned to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic customs.
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene after the attack.
This incident underscores ongoing tensions between farmers and herders in the region, often attributed to disputes over grazing rights and farmland encroachment.
