Ogun woos global investors, development partners at 81st UNGA side event

Ogun State Promotes Investment Opportunities at UN General Assembly
Ogun State has launched an initiative to attract international investors and development partners during a high-profile side event at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The state’s expanding industrial base, strategic infrastructure, agricultural potential, and business-friendly reforms were central to its investment pitch.
Dr. Bayo Adenekan, Special Adviser to the Governor on Development Partners Coordination, represented Ogun State at the event. He emphasized the state’s strategic positioning to draw both domestic and foreign investment, highlighting its developing industrial clusters, infrastructure advancements, and economic reforms under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
“Ogun State is looking for stronger partnerships to capitalize on opportunities in various sectors including agriculture, infrastructure, innovation, climate and green financing, youth empowerment, and artificial intelligence,” Adenekan stated.
The engagement provided a platform for showcasing Ogun’s economic potential to a global audience and fostering connections with international investors and development institutions. Adenekan stressed that ongoing collaboration among government, investors, and development organizations is essential for unlocking the state’s economic opportunities and addressing emerging challenges.
Adenekan also underlined the necessity of innovative financing mechanisms, particularly in climate and green financing, for supporting infrastructure projects and promoting a resilient and sustainable economy. He noted that the discussion focused on innovative financing for climate action and the acceleration of Sustainable Development Goals across the Global South.
Ogun’s investment opportunities are bolstered by the vision of the Dapo Abiodun administration, which is anchored on the ISEYA pillars, as well as the state’s growing infrastructure and industrial ecosystem. This engagement forms part of a broader strategy to position Ogun as a prime destination for sustainable investment and industrial development.
During the event, Adenekan presented a brochure showcasing the achievements of the Abiodun administration to Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim. Ibrahim indicated that the publication would serve as a reference document at the United Nations and the Nigerian Permanent Mission, detailing investment prospects in Ogun State.
Chief Kunle Yusuff, Secretary of the UNGA High-Level Global Executive Roundtable, also spoke at the event, discussing Nigeria’s evolving climate governance framework and its initiatives to mobilize climate financing. He noted the revitalization of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) as a significant step in combating desertification and enhancing resilience in vulnerable communities.
Yusuff emphasized that strengthening Nigeria’s climate financing architecture could attract green bonds and investments related to carbon credits and climate adaptation.
The engagement gathered influential figures from Nigeria’s business sector, public sector leaders, and diplomats, including Ambassador Ibrahim, former Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, and Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change Hon. Titilayo Oshodi, among others.
The Ogun delegation aimed to further highlight investment opportunities within the global discussions surrounding sustainable development, climate finance, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.
