Ballon d’Or 2026: Ex-Leeds United winger, Mike Grella names winner, top five

Former Winger Mike Grella Predicts Top Five for 2026 Ballon d’Or
Former Leeds United and Brentford winger Mike Grella has shared his predictions for the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings, naming his choices for the top five players in contention for the prestigious award.
In remarks made via CBS Sports Golazo, Grella placed Kylian Mbappe in fifth position, acknowledging the French forward’s extraordinary talent and statistical achievements. However, he noted that the Champions League title has eluded Mbappe despite his impressive performances.
Lionel Messi was named fourth by Grella, who praised the Argentine’s remarkable contributions during the World Cup, highlighting his goal-scoring, assists, and overall influence on the game. Grella credited Rodri, positioned third, as a key factor in Spain’s World Cup victory.
In second place, Grella selected Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, describing him as one of the most gifted players currently in the sport and suggesting he could have claimed the top spot if not for the presence of another standout talent. That talent, according to Grella, is Lamine Yamal, whom he placed first in his rankings, calling him “far more talented than the rest.”
The winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or will be unveiled on October 26 in London.
