Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has voiced his concerns regarding recent violence linked to a political gathering in the state, particularly an incident in which one individual was injured due to gunfire.
In a statewide address on Monday, Mbah extended his sympathies to those affected by the violence, emphasizing his commitment to their safety and well-being. He acknowledged the anxiety such incidents can cause, especially in a state where peace and security have long been valued by its residents.
Mbah reiterated that all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, should be able to engage in the political process without fear of violence. He also clarified the state government’s stance on the allegations involving the violence.
“The fundamental responsibility of the state is to protect lives, uphold the law, and ensure justice is administered impartially,” he stated.
The governor expressed his deep concerns over the violent events, adding, “In line with our preliminary findings regarding the incident, I expect the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.” He reiterated that anyone found responsible for the violence will be held accountable through the appropriate legal channels, irrespective of their political connections.
