Lagos announces 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road

The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation project for Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, set to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to minimize traffic disruptions.

Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi provided details in a traffic advisory, indicating that the project will affect the section between Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre and Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ.

To manage traffic flow, a contraflow arrangement will be implemented on the Lagos-bound lane, allowing vehicles to move from Samuel Manuwa Street towards Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre while construction occurs on the opposite lane.

The government has also outlined diversion routes for drivers traveling from Bonny Camp, Falomo, Eko Hotel, and other nearby areas to facilitate smoother traffic during the rehabilitation period.

Motorists traveling from Bonny Camp or Falomo to Civic Centre and Lekki should take Adeyemo Alakija Street near Muri Okunola Park, then connect with Adeola Hopewell Street. They will continue through Akinbo Savage Street to join Bishop Aboyade Cole Street before accessing the expressway at School Corner, near Black Diamond, and heading towards Sandfield.

For those coming from Falomo to Akin Adesola Street, the advisory suggests passing through IMB and entering the Coastal Road via Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Eko Hotel Roundabout. Motorists can then navigate through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Drivers departing from Bonny Camp are instructed to take Ahmadu Bello Way to Eko Hotel Roundabout via the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. From there, they should proceed to Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, navigating through the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis before connecting to Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Motorists traveling along Adetokunbo Ademola Street to Civic Centre will be rerouted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, then onto Sandfield.

Road users exiting through the 1004 gate are advised to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate, proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.

Additionally, for those traveling from Eko Hotel toward Falomo and Ikoyi, the advisory recommends using Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect with Akin Adesola Street, continuing towards the ramp bridge.

Commissioner Osiyemi stated that officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to oversee traffic flow, alleviate congestion, and reduce inconvenience during the construction period.

He emphasized the importance of planning travel times ahead of the project’s start and cooperating with traffic management officials to ensure better mobility along the affected routes.
