‘I defeated 17 Governors, won’t support APC’ – Davido

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has announced he will not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. This assertion comes despite his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu following his election victory.
In a recent interview with News Central TV, Davido expressed his views just days after the Osun State governorship election results were released. He emphasized his choice not to align with his uncle’s political stance, stating he is not obligated to follow his family’s political decisions.
Recalling his past political engagements, Davido noted his support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during their time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He remarked on the power dynamics he faced, claiming, “I defeated 17 governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions. I defeated them with just a phone.”
While discussing his uncle’s support for Tinubu, Davido reiterated his independence from family political allegiances. “My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for President Tinubu. But as for me, I am not prepared to support anybody,” he said.
He added, “I personally haven’t seen anybody in the past. Yes, I have supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I even supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger. My late uncle was part of the APC, so I campaigned then. But right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own.”
