Governor Uba Sani Announces Compensation Payments for Construction Projects in Kaduna State
KADUNA, Nigeria — The Kaduna State Government has compensated approximately 4,865 households at a total cost of around N7 billion across the state’s three senatorial zones, Governor Uba Sani announced. This information was shared during an event on Saturday, where he officially launched compensation payments amounting to about N2 billion for 865 households affected by the construction of roads in Zaria, Giwa, and Shika township.
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Sani emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring that development advances human dignity. “Infrastructure gives physical expression to progress, but the fairness with which it is delivered determines whether citizens experience government as a source of reassurance and opportunity,” he stated.
The governor explained that the reconstruction of 11 township roads within Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas, along with the Giwa and Shika roads, demonstrates the government’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and promoting economic activity. He noted that these infrastructure investments are designed to ease movement, bolster commerce, and connect communities to essential services such as schools and healthcare.
As the construction projects progressed, homes, businesses, and public utilities were identified within the designated rights-of-way. “We recognized that proceeding responsibly required us to address the human consequences of construction with the same seriousness applied to its engineering requirements,” Sani said.
During his address at Waziri Lawal Primary School in Zaria, the governor confirmed that the distribution of compensation checks would begin, providing financial support to families as they relocate and rebuild their lives. “Compensation fulfills an obligation owed to citizens whose property is required for public development,” he added. “Its purpose is to ensure that the benefits of improved infrastructure are not secured through avoidable hardship for those directly affected.”
Sani acknowledged the patience of the 865 households impacted by the project, which includes areas from Babban Dodo to Kofar Kuyan Bana, Rimin Tsiwa to Kofar Gayan, and Tudun Wada, Giwa Township, and Shika. “We understand that relocation involves uncertainty, expense, and the disruption of familiar surroundings,” he said. “Your willingness to engage constructively has helped us pursue these projects with a greater understanding of their impact on your lives.”
The governor also recognized the contributions of surveyors, valuers, engineers, and community representatives who facilitated the compensation assessment process. He directed relevant utility agencies to expedite the safe relocation of water, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure to support the ongoing projects.
