Taraba varsity management seeks industrial harmony amid ASUU strike

Taraba State University Management Urges Calm Amid Ongoing ASUU Strike

JALINGO, Taraba State — The management of Taraba State University (TSU) has called on students to remain calm and patient as the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) impacts academic activities, including examinations currently scheduled at the institution.

The TSU branch of ASUU began its strike on October 12, 2026, prompting concerns from students, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding the future of the academic calendar.

In a statement issued Monday and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Joseph Omar Bibinu, the university acknowledged the challenges and uncertainties created by the industrial action, particularly during this critical examination period.

The university management reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare, recognizing the aspirations of academic staff for improved working conditions. The statement also noted the involvement of the Taraba State Government, which has initiated measures to address the welfare concerns of employees at state tertiary institutions. This includes the formation of a committee tasked with reviewing the salary structure of university staff.

“The university remains optimistic that sustained dialogue, mutual understanding, and constructive engagement among the relevant stakeholders will lead to an amicable resolution of the dispute,” the statement read. The management expressed hope that ongoing negotiations would restore industrial harmony and ensure academic stability at the university.

In light of the ongoing strike, the university management urged students to avoid actions that could disrupt peace and order within the campus community. Students were also reminded to pay attention to official communications regarding the resumption of examinations and other academic activities.

The ASUU-TSU branch’s indefinite strike was called in response to issues related to the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and the payment of salary arrears dating back to January 2026. The university management remains hopeful for a swift resolution through dialogue, allowing students to resume their studies without further disruption.
