Take healthcare to grassroots – Ogun environmental chief tells political office holders

Ogun State Official Urges Strengthening of Grassroots Democracy

Kehinde Bello, General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), urged political office holders across Nigeria to bolster grassroots democracy by implementing programs that directly benefit their constituents.

Bello made these remarks during a keynote address at a one-day medical outreach event in Ijebu-Imusin earlier this week. He emphasized that the effectiveness of democratic governance should be assessed by its impact on community welfare rather than mere political rhetoric.

“Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege reserved for a few, but an opportunity available to all,” Bello stated.

He called on politicians and public officials to enhance governmental efforts by investing in impactful, community-focused initiatives, particularly in the areas of health, environmental protection, and social welfare.

“When we bring healthcare closer to the people, we are not just treating; we are renewing hope and transforming lives. That is the essence of democracy for the ordinary Nigerian,” Bello added.
