Lagos Police Detain Officers in Viral Harassment Case
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four officers involved in a viral video showing the harassment of a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu. In response to the incident, the command has also disbanded the entire tactical team associated with the officers.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi announced the developments in a statement on Friday. An investigation revealed that the officers were part of the Imota/Immortal Tactical Team in Ikorodu. They were summoned to meet with Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai on Thursday, where the decision to detain them was made.
Adebisi confirmed that the officers are currently in custody and will face disciplinary proceedings. She indicated that three of the officers were presented at the command headquarters in Ikeja, while the fourth officer remains in custody but has not yet been paraded.
“We assure the public that appropriate action will be taken against them,” Adebisi stated. She emphasized that the Commissioner has reiterated the command’s intolerance for impunity, insisting that officers must perform their duties with integrity and humility.
The police commended the community for quickly identifying the officers involved and encouraged residents to continue reporting any instances of misconduct.
