Governors Advocate Strong Support for Tinubu in 2027 Elections
ENUGU, Nigeria — The governors of Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states have called on citizens to remain focused and support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, urging them to ignore political distractions.
The governors made their appeal on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mega Rally and Empowerment Programme, held at Okpara Square in Enugu. In attendance were Professor Charles Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu, and Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo.
Dr. Mbah emphasized the importance of backing Tinubu’s re-election to build upon the economic reforms undertaken by his administration. He noted ongoing development projects, such as the construction of primary healthcare centers, as direct results of these reforms. Mbah encouraged women to support Tinubu and other APC candidates in the elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
“A good sailor does not abandon his ship mid-sea because of challenges. We must finish the journey we all started together,” Mbah said, appealing to the electorate.
He further acknowledged the strategic contributions of Southeast Nigerians in business and social relationships, urging them to actively engage in the political process.
The empowerment programme aims to benefit 5,000 women across the Southeast, following similar assistance provided to over 2,000 women in Enugu within a short timeframe. Mbah highlighted that participants received cash support, aid for medical expenses, and tools to help generate income.
“When you empower a woman, you strengthen the family. When you empower a woman, you build a strong community,” Mbah stated, encouraging beneficiaries to make effective use of the resources provided.
Senator Uzodimma described the rally as historic and commended First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu for her efforts to empower women in the region. He reiterated the Southeast’s commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, citing a long history of political marginalization but noting recent trends toward inclusion and development.
Uzodimma praised Tinubu for advancing infrastructure and economic initiatives in the Southeast, stating, “We are now seeing good roads, electricity, health reforms as well as educational reforms in the country. A winning team must not be changed.” He urged voters to maintain the progress made under the current administration.
Governor Nwifuru expressed support for the APC’s initiatives for skills acquisition and empowerment, encouraging Southeast women to throw their weight behind the party. He claimed the APC was the only party with a clear manifesto capable of sustaining the nation’s development and dismissed rumors of any political coalition outside the APC.
Prof. Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Gilbert Ibezim, indicated the region’s responsibility to support Tinubu’s re-election in appreciation of his achievements, asserting that collaboration with the Federal Government would benefit the Southeast.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also addressed the gathering, urging the Igbo community to support Tinubu’s re-election to strengthen political allies. He highlighted the need for increased political representation for Igbos, who have not produced a Nigerian president in the last six decades. Kalu reiterated the importance of Tinubu’s past relationships with the Igbo people during his tenure as governor of Lagos State and applauded the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a crucial step toward addressing regional challenges.
This rally reflects the APC’s ongoing efforts to mobilize support ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing women’s empowerment and regional development.
