Kidnappers hijack vehicle conveying corpse in Benue

Six Abducted on Adoka-Otukpo Road in Benue State

Benue State authorities are investigating the abduction of six individuals traveling along the Adoka-Otukpo Road. The group was reportedly intercepted by gunmen on Friday night while en route from Kano to Okpoga, where they were transporting the body of a woman for burial.

The incident took place around 8:00 p.m. when the assailants approached their vehicle. According to eyewitness accounts, the kidnappers took the six occupants, leaving the woman’s corpse behind.

Activist Meddy Olotu shared details of the incident through social media, urging security agencies to respond promptly. He noted that the families of the victims lost contact with their loved ones upon reaching Adoka on Friday night.

The following morning, members of the Federal Road Safety Corps discovered the abandoned vehicle and the woman’s remains. They subsequently transported the body to a police station in Adoka before it was sent to a mortuary.

Olotu reported that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of 15 million Naira for the release of the six individuals, who remain missing as of Monday. “I spoke with a family member last night, who mentioned the kidnappers had been in contact. Fortunately, he understands Hausa and has been able to communicate with them,” he stated.

The family, already mourning the loss of the woman, now faces the additional challenge of securing the ransom demanded by the abductors. Olotu has appealed to the authorities for immediate action to ensure the safe return of the victims and allow the family to conduct the burial.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Orchia Peter Aondong, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
