Oyebanji warns judges against corruption, undue influence

Ekiti State Governor Urges Judges to Resist Corruption
Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria — Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has called on judges in the state to maintain their integrity and resist corrupt influences. Speaking on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony for five newly appointed judges of the Ekiti State High Court, Oyebanji warned that succumbing to pressure from friends, associates, or external interests could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.
“Judges must remain upright, impartial, and committed to the fair and speedy dispensation of justice,” Oyebanji stated. He emphasized that justice should never be seen as a privilege reserved for the wealthy or powerful.
The governor highlighted that the credibility of the judiciary is built on integrity and public trust rather than personal connections or wealth. He urged the judges to uphold the Constitution and perform their responsibilities without fear or favor.
The newly appointed judges are Olanike Caroline Adegoke, Julius Sunday Bamise, Julius Ajibare, Stephen Akinyede, and Adefunke Anoma. Oyebanji noted that their appointments followed a rigorous and transparent selection process, which included public complaint reviews and interviews conducted by a seven-member committee in accordance with the 2023 Revised Guidelines of the National Judicial Council.
