I’ll soon leave music’ — Davido taunts Erigga

Afrobeats Artist Davido Announces Plans to Transition from Music

Nigerian Afrobeats musician Davido has indicated he may soon step away from his music career to focus on building his financial empire.

The announcement comes in response to a post by fellow Nigerian rapper Erigga on social media platform X, which acknowledged musicians who have struggled financially, often coming from modest backgrounds.

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote, praising their effort and perseverance.

Davido, however, countered this sentiment, suggesting that artists from affluent families also work hard to achieve success. “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” he replied.

He criticized Erigga’s post as “useless motivation” and referred to him dismissively. In a further statement, Davido emphasized his intent to pursue financial goals outside the music industry, stating, “No worry o I go soon leave their music for una to make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF.”

He concluded the exchange by raising a rhetorical question about poverty, asking, “Deep down, who like poverty?”

Davido’s remarks have sparked discussions among fans regarding the challenges faced by artists from varying economic backgrounds in the music industry.
