Katsina Police Arrest Man for Alleged Attempted Murder of Child in Ritual Attack

KATSINA, Nigeria — A 20-year-old man has been arrested by police in Katsina for allegedly attempting to kill a 10-year-old boy in what authorities have described as a ritual-related incident.

The suspect, identified as Aliyu Ashabu, reportedly lured the child, Alhassan Usman, to a remote location in Kuidawa Village on February 22 at approximately 7:30 p.m. Investigators allege that Ashabu pushed the boy into a well.

Fortunately, Alhassan was rescued the following day by a passerby and subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Katsina, where he is receiving treatment for various injuries.

Police sources indicated that the suspect was located and apprehended shortly after the incident. During questioning, Ashabu allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming that he was preparing charms for an accomplice identified only as Khalid, who remains at large.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, with potential charges against Ashabu including attempted culpable homicide, unlawful juju practices, and cult-related offenses.
