Abati’s comments follow claims made by Ohiri alleging that Umahi made multiple advances toward her, including an incident in which he appeared in her hotel room wearing only a towel.
Ohiri has accused the former Governor of Ebonyi State of attempting to engage in a sexual relationship with her. In her account, she noted that Umahi’s advances escalated during their interactions, leading to her expressing concerns over his behavior.
Reports indicate that the situation has sparked significant conversation on social media. Umahi has categorically denied Ohiri’s allegations, which also include claims that he owes her 250 million Naira for promotional materials provided during his 2014 gubernatorial campaign.
In a recent statement to reporters in Abuja, Ohiri described her frustrations in seeking payment for her services. “As I started asking him for my payment, David was asking me out while I’m asking for my payment,” she said. “I told him, ‘No Sir.’”
Ohiri detailed a series of interactions with Umahi, stating that he invited her to his state multiple times to showcase her corporate gift products. She mentioned that during one visit, Umahi expressed his intent to run for governor and requested her assistance in creating promotional materials.
Despite her professional dealings, Ohiri claims that she received no financial support for travel expenses or accommodation, which she covered personally. She recounted an incident where Umahi entered her hotel room in a towel, prompting her to seek safety in her staff’s room.
The allegation concerning Umahi’s behavior prompted Abati to comment on the situation, questioning the appropriateness of Ohiri’s presence in a hotel room with a married man. “As a married woman, what are you doing in a hotel room with Umahi tying towel?” he asked during an appearance on the Arise News Morning Show.
Ohiri is now facing defamation charges filed by the Nigeria Police in an Abuja Magistrate Court following a period of detention.
