At 36, I’ve never experienced 24-hour electricity in Nigeria – Music Producer, Sarz

Music Producer Sarz Discusses Challenges Facing Nigeria’s Creative Industry

Ace music producer and executive Osabuohien Osaretin, widely known as Sarz, has addressed the detrimental effects of inadequate infrastructure, particularly unreliable electricity, on Nigeria’s creative sector.

In a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Sarz articulated how the lack of electricity during moments of inspiration can hinder artistic potential.

The 36-year-old producer shared that despite his lifelong residence in Nigeria, he has never experienced uninterrupted electricity for a full day. “There are times when I wake up feeling inspired and want to create music, but there is no power. Sometimes, when I try to buy fuel, I am told there is a strike or scarcity. As a result, I end up doing nothing, and that potential goes to waste,” he stated.

He emphasized the importance of mental readiness for creatives, noting that insufficient infrastructure poses a significant obstacle. “When the infrastructure is lacking at the moment you are mentally charged, it is a challenge,” Sarz added.

Sarz underscored the critical role of infrastructure in the entertainment industry, asserting that the lack of it severely restricts the growth and success of Nigeria’s creative landscape.
