Rivers: Gunmen attempt to stop Amaechi from entering his community

Title: Armed Attack Prevents Former Minister from Entering Hometown
Ubima, Rivers State – Former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi faced an armed attack on Friday while attempting to enter his hometown of Ubima in the Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Security personnel assigned to Amaechi’s convoy reportedly intervened, countering the assault amid sporadic gunfire. The incident occurred just hours after armed individuals destroyed and set fire to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Secretariat in Ubima.
Videos shared on social media depicted gunmen blocking a key road in the community while firing indiscriminately. Amaechi was scheduled to visit the area to officially register with the ADC.
This incident marks the second reported attack on ADC members in Rivers State in recent months. In February 2026, party members were reportedly targeted during a sensitization program in the Igwuruta community within the same local government area.
The Rivers State Police Command has not yet released an official statement regarding the latest events.
