Man Killed in Clash Between Rival Cult Groups in Ilorin

ILORIN, Kwara State — A middle-aged man was killed Friday during a violent confrontation between suspected rival cult groups at Oja-Oba Market, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the death, stating that officers removed the victim’s body at the scene using a Hilux pickup truck.

The altercation sent shockwaves through the area, leading motorists and pedestrians to divert from nearby routes including Emir Road, Ita-Ajia, and the Gambari axis to avoid the conflict. Many traders quickly closed their stalls and sought safety as the situation escalated.

Security personnel present in the market acted quickly to apprehend those involved, leading to the arrest of one suspect, identified by authorities as wearing white traditional attire. The individual was taken into custody and transported to the “C” Division Police Station at Oja-Oba.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the incident and the subsequent arrest, noting that investigations are underway to identify and bring all individuals responsible to justice.
