Kebbi teacher suspended for criticising state govt Ramadan palliative

Kebbi State Teacher Suspended After Criticizing Ramadan Palliative
Kebbi State, Nigeria – Abduljalal Usman, a school teacher in Kebbi State, has been suspended for three months following his criticism of a Ramadan aid package provided by the state government.
Usman, who is employed by the state’s education department, posted a video on his Facebook page Wednesday expressing his disappointment with the limited food items he received as part of the Ramadan support program. In the video, recorded in Hausa, he displayed one mudu—approximately a local measurement bowl—each of rice and millet, stating, “As a school teacher, this is what His Excellency has given me in the name of support.”
The video gained traction on social media, where Usman emphasized that the gesture was inadequate given the demands placed on teachers.
Two days after sharing the video, Usman announced his suspension, suggesting it was directly tied to his comments regarding the Ramadan assistance. A suspension letter issued by the Dandi Local Government Education Authority cited “negligence and defaulting on duty” as grounds for his three-month suspension without pay.
The letter, issued by the Office of the Education Secretary in the Dandi Local Government Area, stated, “For negligence and defaulting in duty, the authority is hereby suspending you from duty for a period of three months.”
Attempts to obtain official confirmation from the Kebbi State Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education were unsuccessful, as several officials indicated they were not aware of the situation.
