Gov Adeleke extends UNIOSUN VC tenure for two years
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has authorized a two-year extension for Professor Clement Adebooye as Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University. The announcement was made on Monday during the inauguration of the university’s reconstituted Governing Council at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo.
In a statement released by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, it was noted that Adebooye initially declined the offer to continue in his role but later accepted the extension.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that this decision aims to strengthen the university’s governance structure and ensure continuity in its administration. He noted that the extension would help avoid a leadership vacuum that could disrupt the institution’s operations.
As part of the Governing Council’s reconstitution, Professor Adewale Oladipo has been retained as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman. The governor cited Oladipo’s experience and understanding of the university system as key factors in this decision.
The newly inaugurated council also includes Gbadegesin Lawal, Lateef Olalekan Olayanju, Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Orija Samuel Adebayo, Adewale Adetayo Bola, and Olawale Oludayo Abolade.
During his address to the council members, Adeleke urged them to perform their duties with humility, integrity, courage, and a commitment to the public interest. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the Governing Council and the university management, stating, “The Governing Council and management should not operate as competing centres of authority.”
Adeleke also highlighted the university as a significant investment for the people of Osun State, pointing out its role in contributing to the economic, social, and intellectual development of both the state and Nigeria.
In his remarks, Oladipo expressed gratitude to Adeleke for his retention and pledged that the reconstituted council would build on the achievements of the previous council.
Adebooye, in his vote of thanks, thanked the governor, the State Executive Council, and the newly inaugurated council for their support, affirming the commitment of the university management to collaborate with all stakeholders to enhance the university’s growth and elevate UNIOSUN’s status among leading universities in Africa and beyond.
