ABUJA — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have officially submitted their presidential nominations to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, announced on Wednesday that the party has uploaded the names and details of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the INEC nomination portal.

In a post on X, Abdullahi noted the submission as a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections. “This marks another important step in our preparations for the 2027 general election and our commitment to offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal,” he stated.

In a similar move, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the NDC, confirmed he had completed his INEC nomination form. He used the opportunity to advocate for increased transparency in the electoral process and a renewed focus on governance.

Obi expressed concern over one of the questions on the nomination form, which inquired whether a candidate had ever been deemed mentally unfit. He highlighted that pressing issues like insecurity, hunger, and the alleged misappropriation of public funds should take precedence over political distractions.

“When Nigerians, including children and security personnel, are being abducted, and millions are uncertain where their next meal will come from, should politics really be our primary preoccupation?” Obi asked.

He emphasized that effective leadership must mobilize relevant institutions to address the nation’s challenges urgently. Furthermore, Obi pointed out another form question regarding the submission of forged credentials to INEC, urging the commission to publish the academic qualifications of all candidates to enhance public trust in the electoral process.

“Transparency strengthens democracy and builds public trust. Nigeria’s problems are too serious for politics as usual. It is time for leadership defined by competence, character, capacity, compassion, and commitment to service,” he added.

Meanwhile, NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also confirmed his nomination was submitted successfully. In a post on X, he mentioned that party leader Henry Seriake Dickson visited him at his residence in Abuja to discuss preparations for the elections.

Kwankwaso noted his consultations across the North-West region had yielded positive results. “I took the opportunity to brief him on the highly productive engagements and consultations I have undertaken,” he stated.

He continued, “Dickson confirmed the successful submission of my candidacy, and my name has been duly uploaded on the INEC portal as the vice-presidential candidate alongside His Excellency Peter Obi.”

The announcements from both parties come as they ramp up preparations and finalize candidate nominations in line with INEC’s schedule for the 2027 general election.
