Another Bauchi lawmaker withdraws from 2027 race

Yusuf Abdullahi Itas, a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing the Itas/Gadau constituency, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 general election. Itas, who is seeking re-election under the banner of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), communicated his decision in a letter dated October 5, 2026, addressed to the party’s state chairman.

In the letter, titled “Withdrawal of Candidature for the Itas/Gadau State Constituency Seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” Itas stated that he will not pursue the seat in the upcoming election. He characterized his decision as “entirely voluntary and personal.”

Itas expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the APM for the opportunity to represent the party, as well as to the constituents for their support and encouragement during his tenure in office.

Currently, Itas serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Petitions and as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. His withdrawal follows a similar announcement made by Musa Wakili Nakwada, the Bauchi Assembly Chief Whip, who also declared he would not seek re-election in 2027.
