ABUJA — The 31 governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged their support for a consensus arrangement to re-nominate President Bola Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Senator Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and governor of Imo State, made the announcement on Thursday during the submission of Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.
Uzodimma emphasized that the APC-controlled states stand united behind the president, expressing their commitment to promoting the administration’s achievements as part of the re-election campaign strategy.
“This endorsement for a second term is not a new position,” Uzodimma said, referencing a resolution made at the APC Political Summit last year, where party governors unanimously expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“To demonstrate our unity and commitment to that resolution, we are here today with Mr. President to submit his expression of interest form,” he added.
The governor confirmed that the consensus approach would prevent a contested primary process within the party. Currently, only one party member, Stanley Osifo, has acquired nomination forms to challenge Tinubu.
“On behalf of the governors elected under the platform of our Progressive Congress, representing 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states, we are confident it will be a consensus,” Uzodimma stated.
He concluded by assuring that the governors would actively campaign for Tinubu’s re-election, leveraging the administration’s policies and successes to garner public support for a second term.
“We are committed to promoting the policies and achievements of this administration,” he said.
